What does the entry fee cover?

The BMAT entry fee covers costs associated with the assessment and operational processes. Assessment costs take into account;

  • Item commissioning for each section of the BMAT;
  • Editing meetings to review items with principal item writers;
  • The design and production of the question papers including the checking of science content by National Curriculum specialists and the vetting of papers by principal examiners;
  • The printing of question papers and answer sheets;
  • The recruitment and training of post-graduate markers for BMAT Section 3; and;
  • The residential double-marking of the Section 3 writing task; and the statistical analysis and scoring of BMAT results.

Operational costs take into account;

  • The provision of a dedicated customer contact centre to support enquirers;
  • Raising awareness of the test to potential candidates through online and offline marketing initiatives
  • The public information website, ongoing development and hosting for entries and results systems;
  • Supporting the global centre network;
  • The collation and despatch of test materials to worldwide destinations;
  • The receipt and checking in of test materials to ensure that all candidate scripts have been received, and;
  • The scanning, verification and processing of results for distribution to universities, centres and candidates.

There is also an ongoing research and validation programme in place for BMAT.

Additional Information

Please note that candidates who decide to withdraw from taking BMAT can do so by 14th October. Candidates that were registered between 1st and 30th September will be refunded their standard entry fee. Candidates that were registered in the late entry phase, between 1st and 14th October will only have their standard entry fee refunded, and not their late entry fee. It is not possible to withdraw from taking the test after 14th October.

Centres wishing to find out the BMAT fees in Euros or US Dollars should contact Cambridge Assessment.

Some centres may add an administration fee in addition to the BMAT entry fee, this is at the centre’s discretion.

The Universities of Cambridge, Oxford, University College London, The Royal Veterinary College, and Imperial College London are concerned that the entry fee should not be viewed as a barrier to access and widening participation. Applicants may apply for a reimbursement of fees if they meet the criteria outlined in the FAQ.
