TSA Oxford Background & Research

Why use TSA Oxford?

Cambridge Assessment provides research-led and evidence based solutions for major higher education institutions. Most applicants to University of Oxford will be equally highly qualified. There are more applicants onto popular courses than there are places. The University of Oxford has therefore identified the need for an additional method to identify candidates' suitability and potential for success. The TSA is not subject specific, and so the scores can be used across a wide range of subjects.

Background

The first administration of the TSA Oxford was in November 2007. The TSA was already a well established test used by the University of Cambridge.

The University of Oxford requested an additional writing task to give candidates an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to organise their ideas in a clear and concise manner, and to communicate them effectively in writing. The questions set as part of the writing task do not require any subject specific knowledge. The writing task is not formally marked but is used as qualitative information by admissions tutors.
